U.S. Women's National Team Journal with Danielle Scott Feb. 26, 2007
Hello Volleyball Fans... As you may know I am currently playing in the Brazilian Superliga for team Cimed Macae. I am loving my return to Brazil, my husband's, Eduardo, homeland. I played in Brazil during the 1997-2001 seasons. I knew then that Brazil was one country in which I could live.
Macae is located outside of Rio. During my first two months here all it did was rain. I can appreciate it now as we drove from Sao Paulo to Paraty (Parati) during carnival. The countryside was so green and beautifully full of life.
Speaking of carnival, we had four days off. Actually more like two days since the first and last day were travel days. But instead of the wild festivities for which carnival is known, Eduardo and I met with his brother Bene and a friend of his in Parati, an old historical beach town. We stayed in a quaint Pousada that was on the beach front. Very relaxing and quiet laying on the hammock for two viewing the water and feeling the welcomed breeze (it is very hot these days). Taking walks on the beach... Bene had been to Parati several times so he acted as our tour guide.
Fast forward after six days of training we had our first playoff game February 24. We travel by bus mostly, so we took a 9-hour drive to Sao Caetano, Sao Paulo. WE WON 3-0, although it wasn't an easy match. We finished the regular season in fifth place, Sao Caetano was in fourth so we crossed with them for this quarter finals best of five series.
I have been blessed to play well. Currently I am first in scoring and attack percentage. For those of you who have missed my back row attack...I am baaaaaack. At least for this season, for this team. It feels wonderful to be on the court full time again. And I am playing in the middle. (Last year when I had the opportunity to play front and back court, I played as opposite). Our last three games I have been among the best defenders of the match for our team. WOOHOO! I love defense. Ummmmm, maybe I should send video to my National Team coach hehehehehehehehe.
I finally have access to the Internet in my home. I've been in touch with a couple of teammates past and present. Let's see... Heather is tearing it up in Italy, Lindsey too. Wiz is training and playing for Toshi in Japan team Pioneer and getting back in the swing of things after having been sick with a cold of her own (I've been there, it's freezing in Yamagata YIKES!). I've instant messaged with Jason, Nancy's husband, who says that Nancy is doing well in Spain. Stacy Sykora is working at a LAW OFFICE and loving it.
Well, that is about all the news I have. Oh, my mom arrived on Sunday. She will be here with me until the end of league.
Blessings to yall....
