Boy it’s been a rough last four matches. Always with such great expectations of myself and the team it hurts to keep lossing….even though we were not “full strength.” I felt that even with the line up with which we played we definitely had opportunities but each time falling short. I guess statistically I played one of my best matches as opposite, and everyone complemented me afterwards. I smiled and thanked them but I was really disappointed. This match was pretty difficult to play after having loss the first two sets. Not because we were down, if you know me, I fight until the last point, but at that point we knew that we had no chance of making it to the final four of the Italian Cup. However, as quickly as the weight of this realization pulled at me, I thought OK we need to win for our own morale, for the fans who packed the gym to capacity, and all who continued to support us. We won the third and fourth sets, really playing with even greater intensity and passion, something that has been missing as a team. The result, well we didn’t win the match, but for all of those who watched it was a positive step in the right direction. And after hearing that many time after the match, though I recognized it myself too, I was encouraged even in the defeat though not satisfied.

After our match on last Saturday, we were off I think for the first time this season on Sunday so I was able to go to church in Torino. The pastor greeted me at the door and soon service began. He called on me to read the scripture for the morning, Isaiah 40: 21-31, which as I read it, it was as if God was speaking directly to me. “…HE will not grow tired or weary, and HIS understanding no one can fathom. HE gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak….those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Is this not encouraging or what?

So we didn’t make it to the finals of the Italian Cup…we still have the Cup of Cev and the league on which to focus. With God’s help I will not grow tired or weary and we will achieve some of our goals for this season. AMEN.

Be encouraged, blessings to ya,

GO CHIERI,

Danielle
